Former Ogun State governor and National chairmanship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Otunba Gbenga Daniel on Friday visited former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to solicit his support for the forthcoming chairmanship election next month.
Daniel and his entourage, which included his deputy when he was the governor, Alhaja Salmot Badru, former Minister of Steel Development, Alh. Sarafa Ishola, former State Caretaker Chairman of the PDP, Elder Joju Fadairo, Ife Kayode-Akinbode, Segun Sowunmi and Hon. Dapo Adeyemi among others arrived at about 10.00am at the Presidential Hilltop residence of Obasanjo and immediately went into a private meeting.
After about two hours later, Daniel emerged into the waiting hands of Newshound saying, “we have come to consult with Baba Obasanjo and seeks his advice” regarding his ambition to run for the office of the National Chairman of PDP, adding that he can’t make any move in that direction without the ex – President’s input.
“I’m contesting for the PDP chairmanship position. I’m consulting and Baba is one of the foundation member of the party and we can’t move without him,” Daniel said.
He said PDP is now united and being rejuvenated to make it a party to beat both in Ogun State and at the centre.
“We have been united. You can see all of us are here. We have realised that united we stand, divided we fall,” he added. The State chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Tunde Odanye said the visit was successful as “we are able to get the blessing and support of our father and leader, who is father to all.”
