Ex-Finance Minister, Jubril Martins-Kuye Dies At 80 – As Buhari Condoles With Family

Former Minister of Finance, Jubril Martins-Kuye on Sunday died at his Ago Iwoye residence in Ogun State.
Martins-Kuye, a former Nigerian senator who also served twice as a federal minister, passed away at the age of 79 after a brief sickness.
Until his death, he was a politician of high repute, who represented Ogun East senatorial district of Ogun State under the Social Democratic Party in the third republic.
He was also a governorship candidate under the Peoples Democratic Party in 1999 but lost to Olusegun Osoba of the Alliance for Democracy party (AD).
The former minister was born on the 16th of August 1942, in Ago Iwoye, Ijebu Igbo local government of Ogun East senatorial district of the state.
He was appointed a Minister of State for Finance in June 1999 during the first term of former President Olusegun Obasanjo serving until 2003 and later on appointed a Minister of Commerce and Industry on April 6, 2010, under ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
One of his children, Bolaji, confirmed confirmed his death on Sunday.
He said, “I can confirm to you that he passed on about 10:05 this morning. It was a painful loss to us, but, we give glory to God for the impactful life that he lived while he was alive because he touched the lives of many people.
“He died at 80 in his residence at Victoria Garden City, Lagos.
The senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Lekan Mustapha, described his death as a great loss to the state and Nigeria in general.
“We have lost a patriotic Nigerian who during his lifetime contributed immensely to the stability of our nation. This is a huge loss to us all. His wealth of experience will be greatly missed,” he said.
The lawmaker prayed that the Almighty God would eternal repose to the elder statesman’s soul and fortitude to the family and the nation at large to bear this irreparable loss.
Buhari Condoles With Family Of Former Minister, Senator Jubril Martins-Kuye
President Muhammadu Buhari commiserates with family, friends, and associates of former Minister of Commerce and Industry, Sen. Jubril Martins-Kuye, praying that the almighty God will comfort them at their moment of grief.
President Buhari in a statement by his special media aide Femi Adesina condoled with Ago Iwoye community, government, and people of Ogun State over the passing of the legislator in the Third Republic, who served in the Fourth Republic as Minister of State, Finance, and Minister of Commerce and Industry, bringing with him many years of experience from the banking sector.
The President said he believes Martins-Kuye will be sorely missed for his insight on issues of development, particularly in tailoring budgets that reflect the needs of the people, with his emphasis on full implementation.
