The Kogi state government has debunked reports that 10 farmers were hacked to death by herdsmen at a village in Omala Local Government Area of the state, Vanguard reports.
The Kogi state security adviser, Jerry Omodara, in a chat with newsmen in Lokoja, the state capital, described the report as misleading, and also appealed to the journalists to crosscheck their facts before publishing.
It was gathered that Omodara described what actually transpired as a minor misunderstanding, and stated that it was only one individual, Abuka Awodi, who had died.
Omodara insisted that Kogi state was not under siege by herdsmen, and stated that no one was killed during the clashes in Bassa and Ejigba.
He stated that the state government was conscious of its citizens’ security; especially as regards the relationship between herdsmen and farmers.
Meanwhile, it was previously reported that the Kogi government will conduct a biometric registration of all Fulanis resident in the state, according to a statement issued in Lokoja.
The statement was signed by Mr Jordan Akpata, the information officer in the Department of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Akpata said the special adviser to the state governor on local government and chieftaincy affairs, Mr Abubakar Ohere, disclosed this during a meeting with traditional rulers.
