It queried former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s motive for his letter in which he asked President Muhammadu Buhari not to contest for the second term in office. In the letter, Obasanjo had accused Buhari of nepotism, clannishness and lopsided appointments, while also slamming him for failing to revive the economy. But CHRICED, in a statement by its Executive Director, Dr. Ibrahim Zikirullahi, on Friday, in Abuja noted that Obasanjo may, “like many other entrenched elite, succeed in using the miseries of the citizens for their own self-serving ends.”It said, “While it is true that there is an urgent need for a veritable alternative to the current rudderless and sinking APC/PDP captaincy, it is our firm belief that it is the Nigerian people who should take collective ownership of that important process of taking Nigerians back from the political vagabonds.“It is the Nigerian people who have borne the brunt of the PDP/APC misrule since 1999 that should galvanise themselves to create a grassroots-led alternative to bring Nigeria out of the doldrums.”CHRICED stated that it was not deceived by “the former President’s attempt to use the collective misery of the Nigerian people to serve as the launch pad for his unending political schemes.”Meanwhile, the National Coordinator of the movement, Pelumi Olajengbesi, told journalists in Abuja on Friday that the organisation was already mobilising youths across the federation to deliver the nation from the stranglehold of a cabal as canvassed by former President Obasanjo.
