Six members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Oyo State chapter, were arrested in Ibadan between Wednesday and Thursday for allegedly causing trouble at motor parks.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi, told our correspondent on the telephone that the suspects were apprehended by men of the Orita Challenge and Agodi Divisional Police Divisions in conjunction with Special Anti-Robbery Squad operatives.
Fadeyi said those arrested would be charged to court today (Friday).
The PPRO stated, “Three NURTW miscreants were arrested by our Orita Challenge division on Wednesday, and the other three were nabbed on Thursday in the Agodi area.
“The DPO in Agodi, with the assistance of SARS operatives, made the latest arrests possible. The NURTW members had been warned against fomenting trouble in the state.”
Asked if arms and ammunition were recovered from the suspects, the PPRO said the reports sent to the command headquarters did not indicate any seized items.
There had been apprehension in the state shortly after the March 9 victory of Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party as factional members of the NURTW were threatening to effect a change of leadership on the inauguration day of the new governor, which held on Wednesday.
