The Senate has concluded plans to investigate the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board over revenue generation by the agency.
The upper chamber’s resolution was as a result of point of order raised by Senator Dino Melaye who wondered how could the new JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, could remit about N12 billion within one year to government coffers and the previous Registrars remitted less than N50 million annually.
Melaye added that the relevant committees of the Senate must work to ensure that National Examination Council makes more money and remits it to the government coffers.
He said Senate the needs to find out what happened in the past to JAMB, which normally remitted less than N50 million to the Federation Account.
Also speaking, the Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan, said there is the need for the relevant Senate committees to investigate what happened in the past to JAMB.
The Senate thereafter in its resolution directed its standing committee on Basic Education to look into the matter and brief the Senate.
