The lecturer at the Delta State University, Abraka, Dr Boniface Anyanwu, who was abducted from his residence in Obiaruku last Saturday by unknown gunmen with a son of his colleague, Prof. Austin Nwachukwu, have been rescued from the kidnappers’ den.Our correspondent gathered on Tuesday that the kidnap victims regained their freedom on Monday night after an unnamed hunter stumbled upon them in the forest at Amai, a community in the Ukwuani Local Council Area of Delta State.A reliable source at the university said the hunter had found Anyanwu and Nwachukwu’s son chained to a tree and he immediately informed some members of a local vigilance group who in turn rushed to the spot to rescue them. The kidnappers, who had earlier demanded the sum of N20m as ransom for both victims, were said not to be around when the rescue took place. The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Delsu chapter, Prof. Abel Diakparomre, confirmed the development to our correspondent.Diakparomre said the victims were rescued unhurt and they had reunited with their families. Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka, could not be reached for confirmation, but a police source at Obiaruku confirmed that the victims had been set fee.
