President Muhammadu Buhari has recalled the Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Prof. Usman Yusuf, who was suspended by the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole.Yusuf is being probed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, as he was accused of misappropriating N919m.Nigerians who seem displeased with Yusuf’s reinstatement have taken to Twitter to express their anger over the situation.See some of their tweets below:
Thank you Pres @MBuhari for reinstating Usman Yusuf back as NHIS Chief after the ‘overzealous’ & ‘jealous’ Minister for Health @IsaacFAdewolesuspended him for small and petty crimes such as misappropriating ordinary N290million on training of workers without approval. Sai Baba! https://t.co/992ArDdTee— Abdulaziz O. Bakare (@Backarray) February 6, 2018
As the case of the suspended Executive Secretary of NHIS shows, even reporting lines are not clear. Does a DG report to his Board, to the supervising Minister or direct to the President who appointed him? We cannot keep glossing over these issues. They won’t go away. End.

Buhari has reinstated Usman Yusuf to his NHIS position. If you still wonder how Maina got back into the civil service as Director, you are as vacuous as Buhari himself.End of!— Charles the 1st (@9jaBloke) February 6, 2018
Let’s thank our amiable President @MBuhari for reinstating the NHIS boss despite the alleged N919M fraud. First, the allegation is not even up to N1 billion and secondly the allegation is not even an issue since the NHIS boss is not from the 3% zone. Thank you, Mr President. https://t.co/0vr1ROdJc4— Wole Oluyemi (@WFOluyemi) February 7, 2018
So the same NHIS Boss that was accused of financial recklessness & sacked by MINISTER OF HEALTH
is been reinstated by the PRESIDENCY today

I still dont understand how Presidential appointees keep fighting each other.Min. Health vs NHIS
Min. Finance vs Gwarzo
DG SS vs Magu
Malami vs Magu etcI mean arent they appointed by one person?
You cant be watching ur kids killing each other. https://t.co/vGk0UJja19— Fuad Kabiru Gaya (@fuadgaya) February 6, 2018You & I know that fraud case was a setup aimed at blackmailing Prof Yussuf. That man was brought in to create some sanity in the NHIS scheme. It is just hard for us as a NATION to accept a different way of doing things.— 9jaVolunteers (@9jaVolunteers) February 8, 2018
The Minister of Information claimed that he is not aware that @officialEFCCis investigating NHIS Prof Yusuf before being reinstated, @azuosumili what else can be far from the truth as this, unless he doesn’t read Newspapers. @RedCardMng— Tunde Sanni (@tspade22) February 8, 2018
If you’re humble enough to ask for my Loyalty & unwavering commitment to serve as a Min of Health in your administration as a President. Then reciprocating respect & full discharge of Duties as a Principal Officer isn’t too much to ask for.
This NHIS saga is Gross disrespect!!!— IG- fagbofrank (@FrankFagbo) February 8, 2018
The recall of the NHIS boss is a disgrace and a mockery of Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade. It is a shame that a govt that prides itself to be intolerant of corruption is scurrilously reinstating corrupt officials— Chukwuemeka Nnadozie (@ChNnadozie) February 8, 2018
How can the Min of information claim that he is not aware that the NHIS Boss was suspended and being investigated,@NGRPresident you guys should find better ways to lie rather than this nonsense statement.@channelstv @jimidisu— sege (@zurri84) February 7, 2018
REINSTATEMENT of the Executive Secretary of NHIS, by President@MBuhari, is a failure of political authority and IMPUNITY. And anyone defending such a bad decision, is a case of Mental Slavery,Sycophancy, wide integrity gap & loss of shame.#OfficeOfTheCitizen#RedCardToAPCAndPDP— Dr. Tony Akabuno (@tonyakabuno) February 8, 2018
