As the gubernatorial election is approaching in Osun State, the Osun All Progressives Youth Forum (OAPYF) Coordinator, Comrade Olateju Olorungbebe Adunni on Friday pleaded with the youths of the All Progressives Congress to work assiduoysly for the continuity of good governance in the State.
The APYF Coordinator, made the plea in Ikirun at a town hall meeting organized by the forum, towards resolving perceived differences within the party and to also pacify some aggrieved members.
Speaking at the Day 4 of the town hall meeting which covers Ifelodun, Boripe and Odo-otin federal constituency, he implored the people of the State, especially those who have not registered, to ensure they register with INEC, with a view to securing their PVCs to enable them participate in the coming election.
Olateju submitted that the PVC is the only weapon with which the youths can claim their rights for continuity of good governance.
The APYF coordinator said the party is ready to listen to all grievances from the youths assuring that measures have been put in place to make the programme a huge success.
According to him, “Voter’s card is the weapon that could be used by the electorate to choose candidates of their choice.”
The Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Projects Monitoring, Hon Wole Idowu while speaking at the meeting commended Governor Rauf Aregbesola on the construction of 151km roads in Ifelodun, Boripe and Odo-Otin Federal constituency.
He noted that the government constructed roads across the state for easy transportation as well as to enhance economic development in the state.
The Chief of staff to the Osun State governor, Alihaji Gboyega Oyetola while speaking at the programme charged the youths on peace – building, saying, no meaningful development would be achieved in an atmosphere of rancour and acrimony.
According to him “each and every one of us must work deliberately to ensure sustainable peace in our great State to enable us realise our dream of becoming a developed State in the nearest future”.
He urged youth to build trust and confidence in the party to bring peace and resolution of any conflict in the party.
“Sustainable development cannot take place in atmosphere of chaos and violence, we must give peace a chance for us to benefit from our collective struggle which brought this democratic dispensation”.
Oyetola assured the youths that their is place of relevance in the party, so they could contribute their own quota to development”.
The commissioner for information and strategy Mr Adelani Badrinwa while speaking at meeting disclosed that the state government has paid one billion naira to the retirees in the State
Adelani stressed further that Osun State is among 11 Other States that remit Contributory Pension Scheme.
According to him “”This is contrary to the lies being spread around by the opposition that the state government has not been remitting it’s own contributions and that of the workers.””
“”In the advertorial, NPC said 15 states had enacted the CPS law but has not been remitting the contributions while two states are remitting only the employees portion of the contributions.”
“”It would be recalled that Governor Rauf Aregbesola had last week approved released of N1 billion for the payment of contributory pension to retired civil servants in the state.””
The State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Kolapo Alimi in his remarks said Osun State government is not changing schools fees in any of public school.
Alimi who added that, “the state government is not charging ‘school fees’ in any of the public schools in the state. However, maintenance levies are being charged only in the new state-of-the-art elementary, middle and high schools in the state.”
“Elementary school pupils are required to pay N2,000; middle school pupils, N3,000; and high school pupils N6,000 maintenance levy, every academic session. Nevertheless, a flat rate of N1,500 education trust levy is required from every pupil in public and private schools in the state every academic session.” He added.
The programme continues tomorrow in Ejigbo local Government.
