The National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra state on Monday said it has established a garment factory for the production of facemasks and other prevention protective kits against the coronavirus pandemic.
The State Coordinator, Kehinde Aremu dropped the hint during the presentation of hand sanitizers and washers to the state government as part of the corps members support to the fight against the pandemic spread.
He said the items, produced by the corps members under the skill acquisition and entrepreneurial development program, was also another way of appreciating the hospitality shown to them by the government and the people of the state.
Aremu expressed their preparedness to produce millions of facemasks for the state if provided with the necessary materials and assistance.
He said, “We have set up garment factory at Mgbakwu, Awka North Local Government Area of the state to produce thousands of face masks in the first instance before venturing into other products, including corps members uniforms, using corps members and local materials.
“We already have trained no fewer than 20 corps members. We’ve also acquired an ultramodern cutting machine. We have the factory, everything is set.
“If the state government gives us the go ahead today, in the next one week, we can produce a million face masks for distribution.”
Responding, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, thanked the NYSC and the corps members for joining hands with the government in the fight against the scourge.
He also appreciated the scheme for making the orientation camp available for the state as one of the Covid-19 isolation centers in the state.
