The incessant clashes between the existing security agencies in the country, and Dickson Akor’s led Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) have been described as unhealthy for the objectives of total peace and nation building the organization is expected to promote
This was the submission of a Public Affairs Commentator, Mr Vincent Adepoju while reacting to the frequent attach that has placed the Nigeria Peace Corps in bad light in the eye of the public.
He said it was uncomely for an ungazatted organization like PCN to be involved in a loggerhead with constituted authorities for whatever reason; even to the point of engaging in litigation against them was uncalled for as a peace organization.
Adepoju, explained that the NSCDC and Police had a similar friction initially when NSCDC was being considered for legislation but NSCDC never took it up against the Police nor engaged in unwarranted confrontations nor litigation despite the fact that there were several internal factions and infractions among NSCDC then.
The Commentator, said the clash was unnecessary and unwarranted at this period that the national assembly and federal government was ready to institutionalize the organization for the benefits of Nigerians.
Adepoju, maintained that it was worrisome that Mr Dickson Akor has maximally explored the social, print and electronic media channels to publicize himself and his group as the sole recognized Peace Corps body, even though they lack the ethos and professional skills of a peace organization.
Adepoju, expressed fear that if care was not taken, Akor ruthlessness and indiscretions in robbing shoulders with other statutory agencies could cost the Nigerian Peace Corps project which tends to harmonize two groups: (NUPEC the Mediators) and (PCN) its expected victory and fortune.
He urged Akor to imbibe the culture of dialogue in settling differences instead of going to courts, which is globally embraced modality for conflict resolution and engage well meaning individuals to intervene appropriately by fine tunning their relationship with the concerned agencies instead of seeing them as perpetual detractors,
He said Akor need to seek cordial relationship with the harmonized NUPEC headship so that their joint efforts in attending to the challenges could yield better outcome instead of fighting as a lone ranger because of his headship ambition,
He opened that Mr Akor should not taken upon himself the responsibilities of government by building Headquarters office, buying vehicles and so on which are sole duties of the Federal Government after assents had been granted.
