The Association of Resident Doctors of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Teaching Hospital, Osogbo has commended Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola for approving the implementation of the adjusted Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for doctors in the State.
It would be recalled that Governor Oyetola recently approved 100 per cent implementation of the CONMESS and Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) for all categories of health workers in Osun, putting an end to eight years of agitation for salary increment by medical practitioners in the State.
In a press release jointly signed by its President and General Secretary, Dr Ogungbemi A.O and Dr Ilori S.O respectively, the association described the approval as a great step in the right direction, noting that it would go a long way in improving the standard of healthcare delivery in Osun.
“The benevolence will go a long way towards improving the standard of healthcare delivery in the State, which we believe is one of the frontline agendas of the Executive Governor,” the statement reads in part.
The association lamented that the delayed implementation of the new salary structure had caused massive brain drain in Osun health sector, which it said had impacted poorly on healthcare delivery in the State.
“There has been loss of morale and enthusiasm among the health workers with consequential work overload, which had adversely affected the psychology of health workers in the State.”
The resident doctors, therefore, appreciated Governor Oyetola for approving the full implementation of the new salary structure, saying that it would positively impact healthcare delivery in the State.
