The Aare-Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Chief Gani Adams on Friday lauded the Ondo State Governor, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, on his achievement on infrastructure and for sustaining the peace enjoyed by the people of the state.
The Aare-Onakakanfo, who is also the National coordinator of the Oodua Peoples’ Congress (OPC), gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to Akeredolu at the Governor’s office in Alagbaka in Akure, the state capital.
Adams, an indigene of the state from Arigidi-Akoko in Akoko North West, was received by the state Deputy Governor, Hon. Agboola Ajayi on behalf of the governor.
He is in the state for a grand reception that will be held in Akure today in his honour. The event was organised by friends and associates of Aare Adams, for being the first person from Ondo and Ekiti aixs to become the Aare-Onakakanfo of Yorubaland.
Aare Adams said “I am using this opportunity to thank his excellency and to even thank him for the good work he is doing in Ondo state. Even though I am not part of the system, I have been informed about the product you have in the system. Not only the infrastructures or major projects, we are talking of peace and tranquility we are enjoying in Ondo State.
“At the same time, I am here to tell you as your product from this state I won’t disappoint you during my reign as Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland. The Aare-Onakakanfo we have now is not about war. The time of war for Aare-Onakankafo is over. Nigeria has its own sovereignty, we have the army, the navy, the police and we have the air force.
“It is not the duty of Aare-Onakankafo to go to war for Yorubaland but we can agitate and defend the interest of Yoruba race base on the intellectual way and at the same time, to promote and sustain the cultural heritage of Yorubaland. The most important is the unity of Yoruba race.
“We have discovered some potentials that will be useful for Yorubaland and Nigeria at large. I was in Britain recently, I met some investors, they said they are interested in investing in Nigeria and I told them don’t worry, just put in the blueprint I will communicate with the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I am a citizen of this country, the progress of this country is very paramount to me”.
Responding, the Deputy Governor assured the Aare-Onakakanfo of the support of the people adding that they have the believe that he won’t fail them.
Ajayi said he is excited that Aare Adams is not fanning the embers of war, but rather using his office to advance the interest of Yoruba people and culture.
The Deputy Governor who recall how the then Military Government was fought by the Yoruba through Ideologies when late Moshood Kashimawo Abiola was denied being President, urged Adams to continue preaching to the youths on peace and unity of the Yoruba land and Nigeria.
