
Following the death of professional footballer, Tiamiyu Kazeem and the subsequent violence that ensued from the youth’s protest yesterday, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the Deputy Inspector General of Police in-charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID), DIG Anthony Ogbizi to, with immediate effect, take over investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Recall that late Kazeem was allegedly killed by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, (SARS) in Sagamu, Ogun State on 22nd February, 2020.
Force PRO, DCP Frank Mba said the IGP gave the order yesterday, 24th February, 2020 while reviewing daily reports of major crime incidents across the country.
While commiserating with the family and friends of the deceased, IGP Adamu called for calm and assures that justice will be done in the matter, reiterating that any person found culpable will be brought to book.
It would be noted that the protest by youths of Sagamu in Ogun state over the killing of the footballer, by an officer of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) turned awry and rather violent.
At least three persons and two policemen were reported killed at the protest which included youths, children and even women on the streets of Sagamu
The protesters had also stormed the palace of the Akarigbo and the paramount ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi.
Over the weekend, the Remo Stars Football club had announced the sudden passing away of their assistant captain on their official Twitter handle.
The Nigerian National League side stated that they are doing everything to investigate the cause of his death.
The league said: “We regret to announce the departure of our assistant Captain and Defender, Tiyamiyu Kazeem (Kaka). The Club is doing everything possible to investigate his untimely death. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
