The National Vice Chairman, South South, of the opposition People Democratic Party, Mr Emmenuel Ogidi has said the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government does not have any solution to the spate of insecurity in Nigeria.
Ogidi said efforts by the government, led by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), are yielding little or no result as killings, kidnappings, banditry, insurgency and herdsmen attacks are on the increase.
He pointed out that the position of the Nigerian Police Force and the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), on ‘Amotekun,’ a security outfit jointly set up by states in the South-West, declaring it illegal, suggested that the Federal Government had lost its grip on internal security.
Ogidi added that people were now trying to protect themselves through legal means and not taking laws into their hands.
The PDP leader, who spoke to journalists in Abuja on Sunday, said, “Only few days ago, the South-West states came up with ‘Amotekun,’ a security outfit, only for the Attorney-General to come up and say it is illegal. People are being killed and we should not defend
ourselves? President Buhari took oath to protect Nigerians but that is not what we are seeing.
“Now we hear the Miyeti Allah group saying the Fulani across the continent (Africa) do not need visas to come to Nigeria. What is going on? Is it that we do not have a territory again? People can just come without identity? As a country, we have not been able to put in place
Ogidi decried that despite the high spate of insecurity in the country, Buhari has retained the Service Chiefs who are due for retirement.
He said, “They have told us in clear terms that they do not have solution to the security problem of this country. We are all hopeless and have resorted to God to help us. Insecurity is so bad because the economy is so bad. A good economy can also help reduce insecurity. Majority of Nigerians have turned into beggars.
“The only defence they have now is to tell us that corruption is fighting back. So many cases of kidnapping and illegal bunkering, but you say corruption is fighting back. It was your promise to fight corruption, in your campaigns.”
