Three-time African champions Super Eagles on Wednesday arrived Garoua, venue of their Group D African Cup of Nations matches, with a total of 25 players.
The team departed the country 8pm via a chartered Air Peace aircraft for the 45-minute flight and are billed to have a training session on Thursday (today) to acclimatize to the weather in Cameroon.
Team captain Ahmed Musa returned in time to catch the flight after being excused for Wednesday’s training at the M.K.O Abiola National Stadium, Abuja to attend to a personal issue in Kano.
Glasgow Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo and Samuel Chukwueze joined the team on Wednesday to take the total number of players in camp to 25, while Jamilu Collins and Tyrone Ebuehi are expected to join the squad in Garoua.
Striker Odion Ighalo may not feature in the competition after Al Shabab’s refusal to release the striker for the AFCON.
However, according to reports, Feyenoord striker, Cyriel Dessers and Hammarby midfielder Akinkunmi Amoo have been placed on standby to replace the former Manchester United man.
The 25 players who made the trip are – Ahmed Musa, Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi, William Troost-Ekong, Semi Ajayi, Frank Onyeka, Kenneth Omeruo, Ola Aina Kelechi Nwakali, Moses Simon, Francis Uzoho, Henry Onyekuru and Peter Olayinka.
Others are – Chidozie Awaziem, Chidera Ejuke, Daniel Akpeyi, Umar Sadiq, Olisa Ndah, John Noble, Taiwo Awoniyi, Zaidu Sanusi AND Maduka Okoye.
The Eagles are scheduled to play their first match of the competition on Tuesday against eight-time champions, Egypt.
